Since launching early 2010 the ‘South Side Show’ has quickly become Melbourne’s undisputed weekly home of vaudeville, circus and cabaret.

On stage, dance floor or hanging from the ceiling, every Saturday night this lush art deco inspired venue comes to life with the crème of local and international guest performers alongside a rambunctious crowd comprised of circus kids, carney folk and vaudevillians.

With a reputation as a world class cocktail bar as well as one of the city’s most alternative club nights, the South Side Show parties till the wee hours each Saturday to the sounds of soul, funk, jazz, hiphop and cabaret show tunes served up by host Knave Knixx and DJ Mike Gurrieri.

KALI RETALLACK (AERIAL)

Kali is an experienced physical performer specializing in Lyra (spinning hoop), tissue, hulla hoops, adagio and dance. Kali became a member of the Flying Fruit Fly circus circus at 14, where her love of circus began.

Kali trained in dance at the Dance Factory in 2007 and has since been freelance circus performing around Australia in corporate and community events. Kali has worked for companies such as Circa, Stardust Circus and Retina Productions. Kali is also a member of new and upcoming circus company A4 Circus Ensemble, performing in Melbourne & Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Hoopla and Montreal Circus Festival  in 2010.

MALIA WALSH

Malia trained at The Royal Academy of Dance before becoming one of the most sought after fire performers both in Australia and Internationally. Sheer commitment has seen her rise to dizzying heights as an acrobat and accompanied with her acerbic tongue, sharp with and zest for the melodramatic she is an exemplary performer.

DIANA SCHONHOLZER

Swiss-Australian circus artist and dancer Diana Schönholzer has a passion for movement and theatre that has taken her around the world. A versatile performer with a background in gymnastics and ballet, Diana trained at Nica in Melbourne. Both as a solo artist and in ensembles, she has performed in cruise ships, cabarets and theatre festivals internationally.

MIKE GURRIERI

Mike's strictly underground attitude towards music has earned him a reputation as a DJ who can open an entire crowd's mind to fresh, innovative music but still know how to make it fun at the same time.

Having worked in several local record stores earlier in his career enabled Mike to develop his ear & build a solid collection of music. Not content with just being known as a deep house DJ, Mike has managed to make
a name for himself also playing more eclectic freestyle DJ sets where he explores the depths of jazz, funk, soul, roots & beyond.

Having the ability to play such a wide variety of music has given Mike the opportunity to be the local DJ of choice given the task of setting the mood for many touring acts to take the reigns. He has been billed alongside the likes of Derrick Carter, Henrik Schwarz, Metro Area & Mark Farina at Melbourne's top house music nights. With the more freestyle DJ sets, he has supported DJs such as Jazzanova, Quantic, Nickodemus & Ben Westbeech as well as live acts including Amp Fiddler, Mayer Hawthorne & Crazy Penis. Mike has also started performing alongside funk and soul vocalist Kylie Auldist (of The Bamboos) live on PA. They recently made their debut together at Summadayze 2010 in Melbourne.

The Knave is a one of a kind selector that brings you a freaky collection of boogie woogie, hip shakin', room-a-quakein' tunes! This quirky, high octane DJ is King Pin selector of his style in homeland NZ and is currently making the dancefloor of Red Bennies jump to his special fix of Surf, Swing Jazz, Rock N Roll, Exotica and Cumbia Beat.

It's an infectious blend of nostalgic flavour that will have you swinging tree to tree though the musical jungle of groovy...
