KALKI
"Ace hula-hooper" (The Evening Standard 2008) KALKI HULA GIRL knows how to captivate a room. Time Out London (2009) calls her "an exquisitely talented Hula-Hooper...seemingly defying the laws of nature." The Guardian says "amazing" (2010).
A seasoned performer, she captures and delights all manner of audiences, from New York queens to English princes. "I've seen your show twice and you're really good!" (Prince Harry).
Edinburgh Spotlight says "brilliantly funny and highly skilled"
Her acts are Performance Art - meets - Variety - meets - Comedy, utilising punkrock-attitude informed circus skills. "Kalki Hula Girl has worked comedy into her impressive hula hoop routine with great skill" (What's On Stage).
"From the moment she began her jaw-dropping act, Kalki had the audience in the palm of her hand and entertained with her physical comedy as well as her superhuman hula skills" (Kent News 2010).
She honed her creative and visual style in New York at the turn of the century whence she burst onto the Variety circuit, primarily with the avant-guarde and infamous Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Kalki has performed extensively with the cutting-edge Variety show Medium Rare (London and Sweden), La Clique (Edinburgh, Dublin, Melbourne, London), Palazzo (Amsterdam), Smirnoff's Electric Cabaret; lauded as "the best act we have ever seen here" at the cutting-edge Duckie (London), she has excited and inspired audiences at numerous venues and events worldwide; intimate variety shows, exclusive private parties, lavish theaters, corporate events, and festivals. She has performed by royal request at St. James Palace, as well as Northumberland Castle.
Lovies love her too: "phenomenally talented" (Tom Conti and Kara Wilson).
"A sprite, an explosion, a whirling that seizes you by the throat and keeps you enthralled for every shimmying minute she is onstage. Kalki Hula Girl is a performer extraordinaire, with her dazzling jewelled hoops and her naughty face; the very picture of old-time cabaret. Pouting, winking, smiling, she is a frivolous French maid, a chav slag, a raddled night-nurse, a Greco-Roman nymph, a tragic cheerleader…
Sumptuously sexy, provocatively pouty, and a clever devil with her equipment. The hoops blur, the audience gasps – she is on her feet, she is on the floor, and so will you be. The princess of her art, Kalki delivers an unforgettable gem of an act that will leave the room in a whirl!"

With resident Red Bennies DJs...
MIKE GURRIERI

Mike's strictly underground attitude towards music has earned him a reputation as a DJ who can open an entire crowd's mind to fresh, innovative music but still know how to make it fun at the same time.
Having worked in several local record stores earlier in his career enabled Mike to develop his ear & build a solid collection of music. Not content with just being known as a deep house DJ, Mike has managed to make
a name for himself also playing more eclectic freestyle DJ sets where he explores the depths of jazz, funk, soul, roots & beyond.
Having the ability to play such a wide variety of music has given Mike the opportunity to be the local DJ of choice given the task of setting the mood for many touring acts to take the reigns. He has been billed alongside the likes of Derrick Carter, Henrik Schwarz, Metro Area & Mark Farina at Melbourne's top house music nights. With the more freestyle DJ sets, he has supported DJs such as Jazzanova, Quantic, Nickodemus & Ben Westbeech as well as live acts including Amp Fiddler, Mayer Hawthorne & Crazy Penis. Mike has also started performing alongside funk and soul vocalist Kylie Auldist (of The Bamboos) live on PA. They recently made their debut together at Summadayze 2010 in Melbourne.

This quirky, high octane DJ is King Pin selector of his style in homeland NZ and is currently making the dancefloor of Red Bennies jump to his special fix of Surf, Swing Jazz, Rock N Roll, Exotica and Cumbia Beat.
