The South Side Show
Since launching early 2010 the ‘South Side Show’ has quickly become Melbourne’s undisputed weekly home of vaudeville, circus and cabaret.
On stage, dance floor or hanging from the ceiling, every Saturday night this lush art deco inspired venue comes to life with the crème of local and international guest performers alongside a rambunctious crowd comprised of circus kids, carney folk and vaudevillians.
With a reputation as a world class cocktail bar as well as one of the city’s most alternative club nights, the South Side Show parties till the wee hours each Saturday to the sounds of soul, funk, jazz, hiphop and cabaret show tunes served up DJs Mike Gurrieri, Knave Knixx & Edd Fisher.
"Greetings! I am Australia's internationally renouned Queen of burlesque. Actually, i'm more notorious than famous and that's how I like it. I've been performing burlesque since the eighties, my appeal is more cult than mainstream... I guess I'm more naughty than most and definately more bent. My debut was when I walked out in front of 20, 000 people and my clothes (not that there were many) fell off leaving me shamelessly naked. The standing ovation I received convinced me that I was born to strip."
Jessica has had a love for dance since she could walk. During her childhood she trained in dance, gymnastics and acrobatics and participated in national and international competitions. At 19 she gave up her full time job as a flight attendant to pursue a career as a circus performer. Jessica has now graduated from the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA). She specializes in contortion hand balancing, aerial hoop, tissu and acrobatics.
Grant Swift...has a flashier, more athletic style...fascinating to watch."
Jessica Nicholas, The Age, Melbourne Australia.
"One of the most Spiritually motivated, Politically active artists in our generation. He has the guts to say what most of the world is thinking. His dance is truly inspired by a higher force."
Jason Samuels Smith - Emmy Award Winner
"Choreographer, dancer, Grant Swift, has an eccentric, exciting style, athletic and very strongly rhythmical."
Hawkes Bay Herald Tribune.
"Ultra cool pieces given the top of the shelf performances."
The Dominion, Christchurch, New Zealand.
