Red Bennies - August Review

Since launching early 2010 the ‘South Side Show’ has quickly become Melbourne’s undisputed weekly home of Vaudeville, Circus and Cabaret.

On stage, on the dance floor or hanging from the ceiling, every Saturday night this lush art deco inspired venue comes to life with the crème de la crème of local and international guest performers, alongside a rambunctious crowd comprised of circus kids, carney folk and vaudevillians.

With a reputation as a world class cocktail bar as well as one of the city’s most alternative club nights, the South Side Show parties till the wee hours each Saturday to the sounds of soul, funk, jazz, hiphop and cabaret show tunes served up by DJs Mike Gurrieri, Knave Knixx & Edd Fisher.

ELEANOR BEVERIDGE

Eleanor started her training as a dancer, moving to the UK to study at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. After graduating she worked with various choreographers and small dance companies based in the North East of the Country.  Looking for a hobby to escape from her Dance work she took up Trapeze lessons.  She soon caught the bug and emersed herself in all things aerial working closely with Haylee Mai of Circus Maniacs, Bristol. 

Although having skills in Trapeze, Hoop and Silks/Tissu she soon discovered her passion was for Rope.  Since then she has worked with Zendeh Theatre Company, UK,  and co-formed the small aerial company called Newtons Ladder, UK, who look at developing site specific bespoke aerial pieces.  Eleanor returned to Australia in December 2010 and is continuing to find new projects to sink her teeth into.

It's an infectious blend of nostalgic flavour that will have you swinging tree to tree though the musical jungle of groovy...
