Melbourne live dance duo Running on Reality aims to break through the sonic barriers between live music venues and nightclubs with their unique brand of live/electronic music.  In the purest sense, this is music you dance to, unencumbered by genre or scene. 2010 saw the duo launch their live show at the Hifi in Melbourne.  Their crowds have been treated to a show that is a hybrid blend of refined dance music production and an unpredictable live combination of vocals, keys, synths, bass and percussion.  The result is a dynamic show that is never the same twice and always fun.

Despite having grown up playing clarinet together from the age of seven, the pair’s musical evolution followed very different paths over the next two decades and emerged at opposite ends of the musical spectrum.  Alasdair Brown (aka ‘Anakin’) spent a number of years as an accomplished nightclub and festival DJ based in Queensland, tearing up dancefloors from Summafieldayze to South London.  Meanwhile Hadley Agrez was immersing himself in live music and lending his vocal, bass and keyboard talents to a number of bands including established alt country rockers The Joelenes.  Regulars at festivals such as the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Annual Country Music Muster in Gympie, QLD, Hadley has enjoyed a number of years playing locally and nationally with the band. 

The duo reunited in Melbourne in 2009 and formed Running on Reality.  With renewed musical energy and eccentric influences, they have created a crossover sound that draws on electronica, funk, disco, house, breaks, hip hop and soul.  Guided by luscious melodies and earth-shaking beats, Running on Reality embrace their existence in the void between dance music and live bands. 

Running on Reality will be launching their debut album early in 2011 which will include some exciting collaborations with artists such as Valerie M (Groove Armada, The Freestylers, Maxfield) and Dan Sultan.  In the meantime, keep an ear to the ground for an early single release and live shows that promise multiple instrumentation, an epic dance floor where anything goes and the injection of a healthy dose of fun(k).
