A response to the Kony 2012, Create 2012 is what we consider "a better alternative" to the movement happening April 20th.
For those that don't know, Kony 2012 is a viral video and event on April 20 where thousands of people will be putting up posters of African warlord Joseph Kony around the world to spread awareness of his notorious acts in Africa in the hope that governments will act to bring him to justice.
With all the confusion and media following the charity behind the event and the ambiguity of it's connections and ideas we spent weeks going over what to do with our concert. In the end (and after watching Banksy's Exit Through The Gift Shop) we have decided to do do what we consider "a better alternative". So instead of inviting people to get involved in being opposed to hate and destruction, we are going to invite you all to come be in support of love and creation.
How so? Read on below.
Whether you just want to come dance, drink, and have some fun listening to some awesome local bands and dj's April 19th is going to be one hell of a night at Red Bennies Live.
For $15 (presale) you will receive the following:
1. A ticket to the night, featuring Tehachapi, High Society and Wildcat General Strike as well as dance DJ's from 11pm
2. A showbag with 10 a3 poster sized pieces of paper, and an 86 piece art set to paint, draw, write with.
3. Instructions to do the following "Write/paint/draw create some art with the art set on the paper, it can be a drawing, quote, message of hope, support, gratitude or blessing, it is up to you, but the idea is to spread awareness of love and gratefulness instead of awareness of an evil african warlord. So on April 20th when people go out postering the city in images of a evil man, we can poster the city in messages of good will :)
So if you really want to do something positive on April 20th, let's provide an alternative to putting up posters of a warlord and instead create your own posters supporting something you want to say to make the world better. Most of all come dance to awesome music, meet some cool people, have a great night, all while spread some positive art and messages around the city
