Junji Masayama likes the smell of records, and it all began with a japanese 70s and 80s pop collection when he was eight years old.
He had a teenage detour into garage punk, playing lead guitar and drum machines in the pounding industrial city of Osaka. Moving from Japan to Australia, he let his guitar talk for him while gigging around Melbourne's post-punk scene. Nights watching his love wear out her shoes at endless dance parties was where his metamorphosis to dance producer and dj began.
Junji Masayama has cooked up the dancefloor at such places as Revolver, Lucky Coq, Honkytonks, Laundry, Goods Shed, First Floor, La-DiDa, Carlton Hotel, Motel, Loop, Bambu, Chaise Lounge, Basement Cafe, Eleven-A, Yarraville Club, Metro, George Lane Bar, Civic Underground, Tilbury Hotel and Bimbo Deluxe.
He has played sets on the radio on Kiss FM shows Death Disco Dancer and Good Machine Bad Machine, and on JJJ's Mix Up.
Disco Harry wishes he lived someplace in 1979; a magical time in history where old Analogue Synthesizers with wooden side panels were ‘space age’ and Vinyl Records were how you listened to music.
Today, Disco Harry’s DJ sets have been heard at places such as: Forum Theatre, Revolver, Lucky Coq, Croft Institute, Bimbo Deluxe, RAOBGAB Buffalo Club, La-DiDa, First Floor, The Order of Melbourne, Carlton Hotel, Motel, Der Raum, Loop, Bambu, KISS FM and JJJ.
As a producer, Disco Harry likes to explore the middle ground between live 70’s Disco and 80’s Computer music. He utilises old school equipment & recording techniques and fuses these sounds together to create tracks that have the vibe and spirit of early club music
Internationally, Disco Harry toured and performed abroad in 2009 headlining the first of the legendary ‘Discotekken’ parties in Dublin.
Disco Harry’s DJ sets have been experienced alongside artists such as Theo Parrish (Sound Signature US) Todd Terje, Richard Sen (DC Recordings), Janette Slack (Air Recordings UK), Milton Jackson (Freerange Music UK), Scottie B (Unruly Records), Heavy Feet (UK), Lady Waks (Russia)
