Low Rider & Polo Club
Adelaide´s iconic Lowrider are a testament to the fact that the most integral part of being a successful band is making good music. With smoothly delivered vocals over a simple ensemble of beats, bass and keys, Lowrider create an immaculate fusion of soul and funk.
Emerging onto the Adelaide music scene in late 2003, the foursome met through the city´s tight knit music community after playing in different bands. Brothers Paul and John Bartlett aka Mr Cee and Papa John, teamed with Scott Duncan aka Scotty D and Joe Braithwaite to form Lowrider.
Lowrider´s distinct sound has been developed organically drawing from very diverse influences including Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, The Roots, Mos Def and Erykah Badu. Lowrider will not conform to any genre or creed and have let their sound develop organically, leaving the onus on the listener to define what they are hearing.
POLO CLUB - 'THE 13'
Genre smashing Melbourne duo, Polo Club, deliver on their quick ascent as Australia's most inventive production act with the release of debut album, The 13. Urban Monk and Camelot The Cameleon have crafted a slamming slab of undefinable pop on this collection that recent MTV Kickstart Competition, Triple-J Unearthed and Good Vibrations Festival-sanctioned performances hinted at, but only imagined in terms of idiosyncratic beat arrangement, deft lyricism and world-class bounce.
Tracks '2.0' and 'Hey Urban' showcase Polo Club's open-minded, cross-over take on urban music - an infectious mix of 808s, bass weight, vocoder and tough-bitten flows - while radio friendly cuts 'Ego (So Drastic)' and 'Million Dollars' bring the duo's love of classic, sing-along hooks and narrative song form into sharp relief. Underpinned by a sense of real soulful ambition, The 13 is a futuristic, R'n'B flecked banger certifying Polo Club as digital pop prodigies after only a year or so in the game.
