South Side Show presents : A4 Circus Fringe Preview
Love is a fire. But whether it is going to warm your heart or burn down your house, you can never tell.
Acrobatics, contortion, hula hoops, adagio and risley combine with the classical art of Chinese foot-juggling in A4 Circus Ensemble's show DownPour'.
Inspired by a Dostoevsky short story DownPour explores new love, lost love and everything in-between.
Ever been in love? Ever been in love with the wrong person? Four characters stir from a sleep. A sleep disturbed by sounds of threatening weather. The stage is set and we learn - who loves who and who doesn't.
DownPour is fresh from a season at the Montreal Circus Festival. Cast members; Zoe Robbins, Kali Retallack, Oliver Smith-Wellnitz and Thom Worrell with Guest Director Anni Davey and Costumes by Isaac Lummis & Tristan Seebohm.
A4's production of DownPour has been inspired by the central themes and visual imagery contained in this majestic Dostoevsky short story - White Nights. These themes and images have been re-imagined within a physical framework. The performer's individual and unique set of circus skills are used to explore and emotionalise the story. White Nights was published in 1848, early in the writer's career. Many film adaptations of this story have been made by some of the greats; Luchino Visconti (Le notti bianche), Robert Bresson (Four Nights of a Dreamer), Shivam Nair, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and most recently by American director James Grey (Two Lovers) featuring Joaquin Phoenix & Gwyneth Paltrow.
