South Side Show presents Frankie Wants Out

Since launching early 2010 the ‘South Side Show’ has quickly become Melbourne’s undisputed weekly home of vaudeville, circus and cabaret.
On stage, dance floor or hanging from the ceiling, every Saturday night this lush art deco inspired venue comes to life with the crème of local and international guest performers alongside a rambunctious crowd comprised of circus kids, carney folk and vaudevillians.
With a reputation as a world class cocktail bar as well as one of the city’s most alternative club nights, the South Side Show parties till the wee hours each Saturday to the sounds of soul, funk, jazz, hiphop and cabaret show tunes served up DJs Mike Gurrieri & Knave Knixx.
FRANKIE WANTS OUT
“Think You Know Swing? You don’t!”

Frankie Wants Out is a nine piece original swing band from Melbourne. They first formed as a neo swing band, playing fast jazz and jump blues as well as taking influence the music of the New York dance halls of the 20’s and 30’s. However over the last four years they have incorporated other styles into their live show, such as latin, motown, rock and funk while still paying homage to their swing beginning.
Regardless of the style, Frankie Wants Out are still guaranteed to make you jump and jive all the way across the dance floor regardless of whether you’re in a rocking pub or a classy cocktail lounge.

“You enter the room and a wall of sound and heat hits you. Limbs are flying as the band sizzle underneath a cooking solo. That unmistakable sound washes over you and you forget the rest of the week even happened. The band is FRANKIE WANTS OUT, that unmistakable sound is SWING, and it’s been making audiences jump from Fitzroy to Brisbane and shows no signs of letting up.”

SPECIAL GUEST DJ
ANDREW PADULA
Andrew Padula, a ten year veteran who was into music as far as he can remember. Hailing from Melbourne, many will know him from his sizzling sets at ZOS’ Blue room, Room 680 and Family – not forgetting his recent closing performances at Two Tribes, Melbourne. The lively, charming Brendan Fraser look-alike (a credit to Brendan), a producer DJ with his own label MUSIQUE, first tapped into the mesmerizing world of music at an early age of five. “I’ve always been fascinated by music, being exposed via the piano at such an early age. By 18, I was DJing regularly at dance parties and other social functions,” said Padula told Inthemix.com.au in an interview. “It wasn’t long before I hit the club scene.” He conceded.

It too was not long till he was on the charts with his remix of Black Opera’s track – Young Driver: What Ladies Want, which soared to the top of the ARIA charts and remained there for 18 weeks. Padula’s success is based on the philosophy, which has raised him to new heights, centers on balancing two ideals – ‘being true to yourself’ and being ‘crowd centric’. His energetic style and looks do much to draw the clubbers to the dance floor, but it is really his vision that makes them stay there. “There isn’t a fool proof formula for this, which makes the job interesting,” he quips.
