Shirazz is a six-piece Melbourne trad jazz and dixieland band, specialising in classic hot jazz of the 20s and 30s. Featuring exciting ensemble playing, driving rhythms and hot solos, Shirazz has been fast gaining a reputation as one of this city's premier jazz bands.

In the short time since the band was formed by trombonist and vocalist Matt Dixon in 2009, Shirazz has cemented itself as a headline act for festivals across the state with a decidedly new approach to the genre of trad jazz. Although the standards get a look in, a Shirazz set is peppered with songs people know and love - although they've never heard them quite like this. Together with trad covers of pop songs like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Fat Bottomed Girls", the band also writes its own tunes, which brings trad jazz up to speed with the modern world.

This thoroughly accessible and entertaining approach to hot old-style music means Shirazz has something for everyone.
