The Tiger & Me with the Nymphs
An evening of cabaret-themed music featuring gypsy/pop sextet The Tiger and Me and female vocal quartet The Nymphs.
The Tiger and Me create indie-pop music as seen through the looking glass of European folk songs. Three lead vocalists lead a troupe of multi-instrumentalists from gentle folk melodies through to riotous frenzied waltzes, with a wink and a nod to the old cabaret den and speakeasy tradition.
In April 2010 they launched their debut album to a sell-out crowd at The Toff in Town, and excellent reviews of the album have followed.
They are promoting their album with a national tour in August, before travelling to Europe in September, and then playing two home-coming shows at Red Bennies as part of The Melbourne Fringe Festival.
Vocal quartet The Nymphs have created a unique blend of styles and moods, from the silly and sassy, to the sensitive and sorrowful. Tackling intricate four part harmonies, The Nymphs draw inspiration from the war-time crooners and big-band vocal acts, delivering a mixture of powerful original tunes and reworked WWII-era songs. With a repertoire combining a cappella, swing, lilting waltzes and soulful ballads, these four girls offer a performance which is part comedy, part nostalgia, and a whole lot of nymph!
After exciting adventures in 2010 including an appearance on Spicks and Specks in February and sharing a stage with comedian Jerry Lewis in July, the Nymphs will launch their debut EP on the charming Red Bennies stage.
