The Vaudeville Smash
Travelling musicians and born showmen with the ability to transform a crowd, the brothers formed their first band when they were kids in Tuscany and have been performing together ever since. As seasoned musicians, having recruited three new members along the way, they arose out of the Melbourne funk scene and spent their early years playing Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder and Prince covers. Headlining venues such as The Espy, The Night Cat and Bar Open, the boys would test their original material at gigs – if the crowd danced, the song survived, if the crowd sang along, the song was a winner. They quickly discovered that ‘hook’ is not a dirty word.

The band approached recording in the same way as their live shows: six musicians in a room creating a great vibe. They slammed down fifteen songs, one take per song, with no click track. The objective was to capture on record what they’d been doing live week in and week out. What resulted was the same spontaneous energy that performers of old caught in their one-take recordings.
After launching their EP and film clip (rage indie clip of the week) to a packed out East Brunswick Club in March, The Vaudeville Smash will bring their music to the streets with a national tour. With venues such as the Zoo in Brisbane, The Beach Hotel in Byron, Melt Bar and the Oxford Art Factory in Sydney, Rocket in Adelaide and the Republic bar in Hobart, 2010 will witness the rise and rise of one of the most innovative, energetic and utterly wild bands Melbourne has seen in many a year.
