Taylor and Silk
Sarah Taylor & Steven Silk formed their jazz duo act Taylor & Silk over 8 years ago. The talented pair met at the Conservatorium of Music, where Sarah acquired an Associate Diploma of Contemporary Voice, and Steven an Associate Diploma in Jazz Guitar and Improvisation. As well as having a residency at the trendy dinner spot Fidel’s Restaurant in Essendon, Taylor and Silk have been a regular act on the Melbourne music circuit for the last 7 years, performing at various venues including the popular jazz club’s; Bennett’s Lane and Dizzy’s. They have played with jazz veterans such as Alex Hutchinson and performed along the east coast of Australia at many festivals, wineries and private functions. With the smooth and soulful timbre of Sarah’s vocals and the distinct and harmonic guitar work by Steve, Taylor & Silk will take you on a gentle journey into the sultry and sophisticated world of jazz. Taylor & Silk have a very distinct sound, which is reflected in their diverse repertoire. Featuring jazz standards in the style of swing, bossa nova, reggae, ballads, blues, soul, funk and pop, they also mix it up with their progressive originals.
Pieces to Pictures
Pieces to Pictures is a four piece Funk/Disco/Reggae collective from the heart of Melbourne. Delivering a highly energetic live show, P2P features inventive lyrics and soaring Theremin over catchy unforgettable guitar hooks and stylish grooves.
Brad (summer Breeze) Ashdown on drums combines solidly with Leroy (Sugarbeat) Appleton on bass to provide the backbone for guitarist Steven (the Doc) Silk to weave his magical web of melodies throughout. Marrs (Smokey) Marrone then provides sincerely delivered vocals topped with intense Theremin and effects to complete the full, infectious sound.
Pieces to Pictures have a “Sizzling Sampler’ available as a prelude to their forthcoming album due out Dec 2010. Check out <www.myspace.com/piecestopictures> for the details.
To perform their music live, Sol Nation, who are now under the MGM label, have brought together a Seven piece band,
drawing its members from some of Australia’s top world and reggae bands mixing superb musicianship with a charismatic stage presence that creates an exuberant, colourful, intoxicating and exciting live show.
Stylistically the music draws its influences from Indigenous and Jamaican reggae, traditional East Timorese folksong, African dance music, funk and soul, Cuban Salsa, Latin dance and hiphop. The band has used music to highlight the problems faced by the people of East Timor, and to push for International justice on their behalf.
With a strong global conscience and a commitment to presenting high energy and infectious music to audiences around the world, Sol Nation is a unique Australian musical experience and a live tour de force!"
Red Beennies catches Anna before she zips off on a whirlwind tour of Europe. She performs a dazzling Trapeze act that has the audience whooping and cheering. Dancing With Myself is a beautiful cabaret act in ruby red Pointe shoes. Anna dances and balances in pointes on the trapeze to a beguiling soundtrack. It’s highly entertaining, humorous and slightly cheeky.
