Asher Treleaven - Dionysus Q&A
Asher Treleaven:
What was the highlight Edinburgh Fringe performance this year?
For me the highlight was the night before the awards panel announced the winner of the best newcomer. It had been a stunning season for me up to this date and I had a packed house of industry peers, critics and punters all absolutely pissing themselves with laughter. It was one of the most fulfilling moments of my career.
How did it feel to be a Best Newcomer nominee?
It was torturous at first then wonderful. There is a lot of pressure and hype around the Comedy Awards in Edinburgh. Firstly they leak a long list of nominees to appropriate publicists so there is a 2 day wait in limbo where you cant tell anyone you are on the long list. I made it to the short list which was incredible but the wait was torturous. Win or lose the award it doesn't matter, its a huge deal to be nominated out of 250 other newcomers.
What does make a man manly?
The ability to pull a mining truck out of a pit mine then drink a lemon soda in 10 seconds.
You’ve won many awards including the 2010 The Age Critics Choice Award. Which gave you the biggest buzz?
Well to be honest I've only actually won three awards in my career. The fist was the Age Critics choice for 2010 which was an amazing feeling, but at the time I was kind of in shock and the real joy only sunk in afterwards. I have won two other awards for my latest show and each time its a wonderful feeling to be appreciated by organizations, audiences and critics alike.
You appeared on the best of Rove live. What do you think made your show so memorable?
I was the only person to ever go on his show and hammer two forks up my nose with a tiling hammer, and I blew Peter Hellier in the carpark.
